A quiet boring day in the suburbs and a cousin's visit from Australia turned out to be the day of another Greymanner 'Mini' Editorial photo shoot . Why do I call it a "mini" editorial? Because this time, the model, AKA my cousin, is just 13 years old!
Inspired by Vogue Les Enfants and the notion that fashion is not necessarily just for adults, I decided to grab my camera and ask my cousin, Lorenzo Sergio Josef Abraham, to model. Don't let his Italian surname name fool you. He is half Indonesian, a quarter Jewish, and a quarter Chinese, raised in a Dutch-influenced Indonesian family, and now is residing in Australia. Complicated? Our family tree is like a big tree with lots of different fruits - some of us don't even speak the same language.
A little story about this 'quite spontaneous editorial': The absence of my great team partners, Jordan Petryk, our resident photographer and Alyssa Kwan, our wardrobe stylist, has proven to be the major challenge for me. But while now they are preparing the next editorial in far-far away Vancouver, I realized I also had to do my part. And this week was the best time as I've just finished with another project and I have some free time on my hands. So I spent hours rummaging through my closet, and I found so many outfits that I never even had a chance to wear (mostly because I shrank them), but that fit our little model perfectly. Styling him somehow has also given me new ideas of what to buy next time.
The photo shoot itself went quite smoothly. We found some nice spots around my neighbourhood to shoot - one of them is the abandoned house next to my house. I even had my golden lab, Bruno, be in some of the shots, thank you, Dog! But the ones who deserve the biggest credit are my super rad uncle and aunt, Geoffrey & Febe, who helped me in directing. They were so supportive and into it, they even let me "torture" their son, hahaha. Standing and posing for hours under the 32º sunlight is not an easy task, let me tell you, especially for a 13-year-old boy.
PS: I'm not a pedophile.
Pictures after the jump.
