Weekend Wardrobe: Parisian Fisher(wo)man

This week I was inspired by an impeccably well-dressed mother I couldn't stop staring at while I "studied" at a coffee shop. In fact, I saw so many well-dressed parents that day it blew my mind. I can only hope to be so on top of my game if/when I get to that point in my life. I think there is now a huge weakness in me for chic parents, because you know they have busy lives and yet they still manage to look so effortlessly stylish. My favourite is this French family that I see sometimes on the bus and once at my workplace - each time they were colour-coordinated down to the pastel pink umbrella that the father was carrying for his wife and little girl. Wow!! Huge appreciation and mega props to all those parents out there who are on top of their fashion game.

Anyways, back to this weekend's wardrobe choices. It kind of went from a loose-fitting unisex vibe to this Parisian fisher(wo)man look, and how it got from one to the other I really have no clue and that's the beauty of clothing, my friends. Let me start by saying that I think everyone needs a perfect fitting, basic Breton top because it makes everyone who wears it look so effortlessly stylish. I chose wool pants because of the cold weather lately, and these boots that are perfect for snow and/or rain. The sleeves and fit of the See by Chloe cape-style cardigan is the perfect 'fisherman' (kinda) waffle-knit match for the Breton top because it still showcases the print of the top with its half-sleeve. I went simple with the jewelry, featuring a feather cuff from Iosselliani and I am so happy to have found the perfect nautical knot studs (these are a must have for me, I'm going to get my hands on them). In true 'The City' form (yes, I watch this show), I've included a menswear inspired watch because it adds to the effortless Parisian/fisherman style. (Please note: I didn't get the inspiration from the show as I have used men's watches in a previous WW post, just thought Joe & Olivia's comment about it was hilarious.) If you don't know about Barbour's brilliant waxed cotton jackets, please familiarize yourself. You could start here.

How would I wear it? Button 1 or 2 buttons on the cardigan, roll up the sleeves on the Breton shirt a little. Pull the red socks high and roll up the pants a bit so that they fall into the boot, but when you sit down, the pants creep up so that you can see the red socks (I love it when there's a little sock colour surprise). Don't zip up the coat even though it's freezing, because you need to let everyone appreciate that top and cardigan. Plus, you've got a toque and gloves to give you that extra warmth, anyway.
