I guess Marc Jacobs isn't the only one who has tapped into the skater boy market recently. Here's an editorial from WestEast Magazine's S/S 2009 issue that features the most stylish looking skater boy I have ever seen in my life. And yes, you may quote me on that because I beg you to challenge me on that call.
Model Douglas Neitzke is dressed to the nines in skater boy fashion wearing pieces by Marc by Marc Jacobs (of course), Tim Hamilton, Comme des Garçons, Number (N)ine and Patrick Rzepski, to name a few. Fashion editor John Tan did an amazing job with this one because not only is it super stylish and features amazing pieces, but because it's totally believable. Fashion and function is always so difficult to find in editorials such as these, but he definitely nailed it. Even Neitzke is a believable skater boy with those floppy auburn curls in that directional haircut. And if you're a skater boy who happens to have stumbled across this blog a) how did you get here? and b) that still means you somewhat care about fashion. You have to admit that it's probably easier to skate in shorts with trouser socks or leggings than it is in those gosh darn super tight (or super baggy) jeans of yours. Skaters and non-skaters alike can appreciate the styling, because if all skaters looked this good, I'm sure the non-skaters out there would just have to start carrying around a skateboard to top off their look (non-skaters, start here).
Alright, I'm sure all you girls have had your skater boy days, because I know I sure did, but a big reason I'm over it is because of the fashion. I'd like to think I'm a little bit older and therefore, a little bit wiser, and so my fashion tastes have also become a little bit more refined. And let's face the truth, skater boys aren't really known for their refined-ness, but that's part of their appeal. But let's all band together to create a coalition against those tight jeans, plaid and toque skater boy uniforms, and push for this fashionable yet absolutely functional look instead. I have yet to mention the practicality of a skateboarding wardrobe full of designer pieces, but looking good is never practical. Let's do this.
More from the editorial after the jump.
