Dress Up in Stephanie Downey's 'Near Dark'

Wow what is up with Australia and being totally on top of their fashion game as of late??? An aside: 1 question mark means it's a generic inquiry, 2 means I kind of want to know the answer, and 3 means I am in complete wonder and will do anything to get to the bottom of this mixed with a little bit of envy and a lot of admiration. It's quite difficult to reach 3 for me really, but Dress Up by Stephanie Downey has got me all stirred up.

Stephanie Downey studied Fashion at RMIT University in Melbourne, and credits her mother with getting her into sewing and fashion, as her mother sewed all of her own clothes from when she was a teenager. My mother also sewed all of her own clothes from when she was a teen, what happened to me? Oh right, I'm not Australian, nor do I have any sewing skills whatsoever, and I'm sure Stephanie Downey's got truckloads more ideas than I do.

How can you say anything bad about a collection that's inspired by Dario Argento's horror films? And if you're familiar with his works, you'll notice the parallels between the two - the classic feminine look of sophistication and elegance marbled with defined silhouettes but subtle drapery. That sentence just rolls off the tongue so well, its even got me convinced, but don't let me try to fool you with all these fancy fashion words, take a look at her 09/10 collection entitled 'Near Dark' and see for yourself. I'm liking the palette big time, as it's totally the colour scheme I have been trying to achieve lately.

More after the jump.
