Greymanner Editorial #6 Behind The Scenes

It's hard to believe, but in Western Canada it seems a lot like spring. For our 6th editorial, we are featuring Meghan Labadie, with a modern country western feel to the styling and setting. Having family on the island, I was fortunate enough to take off for the weekend with Meghan and shoot a really interesting location with a lot of different feels. Unfortunately, Alyssa couldn't be there to fine-tune the styling, but we had a wardrobe trial the night before. We tried our best to communicate (I was sending her pictures via bbm of the location, outfits etc. while she was at work) but it's still kind of tough to get the styling perfect when you're not physically there.. especially since Alyssa is a perfectionist when it comes to her 'styling visions', but we definitely made use of technology to keep her updated. Stay tuned for the whole editorial where you'll have insight to what I'm trying to portray!

Current Obsessions #4

* I was going to buy that a.wang sweatshirt the other day as I've been looking for a good crewneck sweat, but the football shoulder detailing didn't look so hot on me... anyone have any recommendations?

Weekend Wardrobe: Summer Brain

The only thing I can think of right now is warmer weather. I know, Vancouver's supposed to be cold right now so that it's appropriate as the host for the Winter Olympics and all that.. but today marks the last day of all this Winter Games business, and Mother Nature should follow suit so that I can start wearing more of this!

Whenever I'm looking at new items, my eyes are immediately drawn towards beiges, taupes & blues (light denim, to be exact). There's just something about the beige & denim combo that exudes that authentic cowboy ranch summer feel.

How would I wear it? You have to showcase this bra, not only because it's awesome, but because if I throw down $980USD on a bra, people had better be able to see it and appreciate it. If you're feeling a bit brave, I'd wear the bra, zipped down a bit, overtop the white shirt left unbuttoned, tuck in the front two tails of the white shirt in a bit of a cross-over fashion so that you're still kiiind of covered up. Roll the pant legs messily so that they graze your ankle.

Item descriptions & where to buy after the jump.

Greymanner 5th Editorial - 'The Great Escape'

T
his editorial is more than just another editorial for us, if you have been following our editorials, you will notice that this is our first male editorial. Believe it or not, it's way easier finding a female model than a male one, I don't need to elaborate why. So our greatest thanks to our model, Wesley Fields taking the risk of going deep in the woods with us ( check out our behind the scenes pictures ) We named this editorial "The Great Escape' ,just like how our Photographer, Jordan Petryk, envisioned it through his lens, and Alyssa Kwan through her magnificent wardrobe choices.

In every editorial, we try to incorporate a theme that represents a fixture of the human psyche, as therein lies a great story and it's easy for everyone to relate to. This time, we pictured Wes as a person with authority who left his comfort zone into the wilderness - We didn't want to call it 'Runaway Prince' or 'Prince of Thieves' because it's cheesy and we know you would get our point anyway without having to try so hard.

The feel we were going for this editorial was 'Dirty' but 'Classic'. Emphasizing on the softness and elegance of the wardrobe styled cleverly to blend with Wes's masculine features and rebellious look. Alyssa played with layers of solid colours: a Barbour coat, sweater and shirt, mixed with cropped cotton drop-crotch pants ( my fav ). Classic doesn't have to be boring.

What also makes this editorial special is that Jordan experimented with three different cameras and a flash feature. We refused to rely and be spoiled by the comfort of modern technology called digital, and decided to explore medium B&W format as well - Jordan even built his own B&W studio in his apartment and we manually developed the film ourselves. Hence, we enjoyed the process so much and were satisfied with the result. We have finally come to terms that modern technology is not always the answer for everything. Nothing could ever beat the timeless beauty of black & white photography. Our photo shoot results went so well even we had difficulty in choosing the best ones to put on. ( If it's up to me I would say all of them! )

Moreover, In the editing process, we stuck with the classic frame template and let the pictures speak for themselves. Even initially we wanted to focus on B&W photography, we allowed some pictures to be edited in mono-color to give it more variety.

Aghh, we can't wait to experiment with another photo shoot !

SevenSocks from The Netherlands

I'm pretty picky with what I put on my feet; shoes and socks are always the two things where I need to find the perfect material/fit/look of, but have had lots of difficulty. A friend introduced me to Seven Socks, a company based out of The Netherlands whose premise is, "No more mismatching!" How? Each pair of socks has a different coloured dot embroidered on the inside. However, if you're like my friend, you'll wear them on the outside because it's just aesthetically pleasing to have the little coloured dot showing if/when you roll up your pants. But if you're like him, you'll wear two different coloured dots as well... umm...

Each box comes with 7 pairs of socks, and you can order regular-length or knee-length socks, in either blue, black or gray, each with their own coloured dots, of course. The material has the perfect amount of stretch, and it doesn't seem to get too stretched out (important to me!!). I mean, I'm sure you can get a pair of Happy Socks in North America easily for around $10 a pop, but these are staples.
